Consumer Law

Consumer protection is government regulation to protect the interests of consumers. The terms "consumer law" and "consumer protection law" refer to state and federal consumer protection and product safety statutes and regulations that restrict or prohibit deceptive trade practices such as the Consumer Protection Act. These laws cover many topics, such as credit repair, warranties, internet scams, food safety, and identify theft. On the federal level, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is the main agency enforcing consumer protection statutes through the use of "industry guides" and enforcement of consumer protection statutes such as the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act and the Consumer Credit Protection Act. Are We Able To Have Our Car Replaced If It Is Unsafe To Drive?
We purchased a 1998 Plymouth Breeze from a Ford dealership. It had previously been owned by a car rental company. It had only 9,997 miles on it. The transaxle broke at 20,259 miles, again at 31,787 miles and again at 38,005 miles. It has been in the shop again since the last breakdown as we are still having major problems with it. We cannot get the dealership or the manufacturer to replace the car as it is unsafe to drive. What can we do?
Am I Able To Sue The Dealer If I Find Out My New Car Has Been Wrecked?
I purchased what was supposed to be a brand new car from a Kansas dealer. I then discovered it had been wrecked and repaired. The manufacturer agrees that the car has been repaired but will not replace the car or refund my money. This car has numerous problems which I believe are due to the damage it has suffered. I am aware of a similar case against BMW in which a buyer from the state of Alabama sued and won punitive damages. What are the laws in Kansas and how would I go about finding an experienced lawyer in this area to represent me?
What Can I Do If The Odometer On My Car Has Been Tampered With?
I bought a car a year ago that read 55,000 miles on the odometer. The bill of sale also says 55,000 miles. I decided to run a Vehicle Identification Number check after having problems with the car. I found out that the car actually had 155,000 miles on it. Would this be considerd fraud? What should I do? What type of lawyer do I need? Also, I purchased the car in Florida and I am now living in New York.
